The Eversley-Sugarloaf is a prominent 721m peak in the Mt. Cole State Forest, 180 km west of Melbourne.
The summit contains an unusual stand of snow-gums and sub-alpine grasses.
The views from the summit are superb, taking in nearby Ben Nevis and Red Rock, opening up a vast panorama towards the north-west, with the hills of the rugged Pyrenees Regional Park prominent.
The pictures were taken on August 26, 2006, whilst on a bushwalking trip.
We drove up from the Western Highway, through the settlement of Warrak, then up along the Ben Nevis Rd. Then turned into Cowan's Track, which was a test of the Forester's AWD capabilities - rough and stony! We parked at the junction of Red Rock Track.
The walking route was via a disused jeep track, then along Cowan's Track, joining up with the Eversley-Sugarloaf Track. The final stage of this is a 100 m steep slog to the summit, where we were rewarded with some brilliant views.
Our return hike was along the the Eversley-Sugarloaf Track, joining the Bem Nevis Rd, then back along Cowan's Track to the car.
Total walking was about 5 km, ( I think!)
