Hoddle's Creek Forest Walk

The Hoddle's Creek Forest Reserve is a large public area of remnant bushland, near the settlement of Hoddle's Creek, 60 km east of Melbourne. Passing through the Reserve is the gated Pioneer Track, which starts at Parkinson's Rd, at the northern end, not far from the town of Gladysdale.

I did 4 km (return) of this Track on October 11, 2006, which follows a ridge top through unusual forest, and the highest point reached is just on 310m. There are tantalising glimpses through the tall timber of the higher mountains, such as Mt Myrtalia, which are glimpsed in the distance.

The area was once a gold mining region in the 1850s, but no artefacts remain.
