The Christmas Hills is a location about 50 km NE of Melbourne.
The region includes the One Tree Hill Forest, an old gold-mining locality from the 1850s, dissected by the Happy Valley Creek.
Several gated fire access roads in the Forest are available for walkers.
The main walking route is about 6 km, known as the Happy Valley Track. I had previously done the northern sector of this Track.
On October 30, I did the southern end of the Track, linking up with the northern sector and then returning. I started and finished at the small picnic ground near the Christmas Hills Primary School, on the Eltham-Yarra Glen Rd.
It is signed as "One tree Hill Reserve".
The Track crosses a ford, then winds it way steadily upwards. It passes a picnic table and seats about 1 k out.
I also explored a steep side-track up to the peak (the views are partially obscured by tall trees).
