The Coimadai Creek and Moonah Tracks are in the northern section of the Long Forest Nature Conservation Reserve, 50 km west of Melbourne.
The area consists mainly of remnant mallee forest, the biggest surviving stand south of the Great Dividing Range.
The images were taken on November 28, 2006, on a bushwalking trip, of about 8 km total.
The going was tough in parts - steep and rocky - sturdy shoes are vital as the tracks are very stony.
The forest is extremely dry, and the Coimadai and Djerriwarrh Creeks, which pass through this forest, have ceased to flow, due to the continuing long drought.
The Coimadai Creek is normally fed from the nearby Merrimu Reservoir, now almost dry, and there is no outflow at all.
