The Ascent of Mtr. Buninyong
South Walk
View from the Lookout Tower
View from South Walk
Mt. Buninyong is 125 km west of Melbourne, overlooking the old gold mining area of Buninyong, the first settled town in Victoria (1838), 12 km south of Ballarat.
It's an extinct volcano rising 1054 m above sea level, 728 m above the surrounding plains.
The pictures were taken on January 21, 2007, on a 3 km loop circuit to the summit, along Crater and South Walks.
The views from the Observation Deck on the Lookout Tower are marvellous, notwithstanding the gale force winds which almost blew us off!
