Stonyford Rd, c1920
Georges Rd, December 2007
Georges Rd is a 2 km fire management track in the Olinda Forest, 45 km east of Melbourne.
Walkers, cyclists, and horseriders are permitted to use it.
It crosses the Forest, from the eastern gate on Olinda Creek Rd, to the junction with Hermons Tk, in the west.
A side track is the Bobcat Link.
The Track passes through tall forest and tree ferns.
It was once a bullock track, used for logging in the 1920s. The Forest was destroyed by bushfires in 1963, and logging ceased in 1968, when the forest was prioritised for recreational use.
The forest now is mainly regrowth.
I completed the Georges Rd and Bobcat Link on December 12, 2007.
See the historical photo of c1920 of Stonyford Rd, which leads into the Olinda Creek Rd. That is what the forest looked like nearly 100 years ago!
