Warrandyte State park - Mt. Lofty Winter Hike

On Wednesday July 1, 2009, I visited the Mt Lofty Section of the Warrandyte State Park, about 30 km east of the Melbourne CBD.

On a 4 km circuit hike, I parked at the gate on Stephen Track, climbed the summit, then descended to the Water Point on the Yarra River, opposite the Bend of Islands.

From there, I explored a seldom visited, un-named and unsigned foot-track to the north, in dense bushland along the river bank.

After reaching a point where this track became overgrown I returned to the Water Point, then along the recognized Mt Lofty River Track to the Mt Lofty Canoe Launching Ramp, at the end of Lower Homsetead Rd. From there, I returned to the car.

The views from the summit are tremendous, looking across the Yarra Valley to the Yarra Ranges and the Dandenongs.

The summit is 107 m above sea lavel - the base is at 62 m.

The full set of Photos show the Views, the Tracks, the Yarra, the Summit, the Water Point, and the Boardwalk.
