Exploring Stonyford Creek - Silvan Reservoir Park

On a wet and cold Monday afternoon, August 31, 2009, I visited the Silvan Reservoir Park, 35 km east of the Melbourne CBD.

The purpose of my trip was to investigate the Stonyford Creek and its location.

The Creek originates at the Reservoir, and passes under Stonyford Rd, then joins the Olinda Creek.

It winds its way through remnant forest adjoining the south western end of the Reservoir Park. The 1 km Nature Trail crosses the Creek.

The Trail starts near the old sillage basin, adjacent to a short preserved section of the original defunct open aqueduct, which carried water to Mt Evelyn. The aqueduct was closed down in 1972 when a pipe system was constructed.

Only a short section of the Creek survives, as most of it was submerged when the land was cleared for the Reservoir in the 1920s. The Reservoir was commissioned in 1931.

See all of the Photos of my visit.
