Black Flat and Mullen's Orchard site, Warrandyte State Park

On Sunday afternoon March 7, 2010, I went over to the Black Flat area of the Historical Goldfields, Warrandyte State Park, 25 km east of Melbourne.

From the small car park at Tills Road, I followed the gated management track to the site of the former Mullen's Orchard, which operated from 1870 to 1914.

This is adjacent to the Yarra River.

I returned through the Black Flat Heritage mining precinct - alluvia miningl and quartz crushing date back to the 1870s in this section, but very few artefacts remain. Diorite Dykes were discovered here in 1878, the remains of which may be inspected.

My exploration was about 3 km in total, which included unsigned foot-tracks leading through the scrub to the river.

See all of the Photos of my visit!
