Michaeldene Walking Trail - Marysville State Forest

The Michaeldene Walking Track is a new formed trail in the Marysville State Forest, 90 km east of Melbourne.

The attractive bushland linking the Steavenson and Taggerty Rivers allows walkers and cyclists to step back in time to Marysville’s historic logging past.

Sections of this mostly flat circuit follow old tramline alignments, which in places reveal the original timber sleepers on which the big logs were transported to the nearby sawmill.

The Trestle Bridge was built to span a small gully and provide access to the timber on Red Hill.

The Taggerty River Lookout offers views over the Taggerty River.

The Track is one of many recently restored walking tracks in the region, which were destroyed in the tragic bushfires of February 2009.

The track starts at the junction of Lady Talbot Drive and the Woods Point Rd, and may be undertaken either as a Short (3 km) Loop, or a Long (5 km) Loop.

The Track is well signposted and there are distinctive msrkers for ease of navigation!

I completed the Short Loop on May 1 2012.

Work crews are currently rebuiding the Bridge.
