Plenty Gorge Parklands - South Morang

These pix were taken on December 1 2012 in the Plenty Gorge Park, 20 km north of central Melbourne, in South Morang.
The Park is very large, and there are several recreational/picnic areas.

My visit was to the Middle Gorge Picnic Area, which comprises two sections. The viewing platform is at the upper carpark at the top of the cliff, overlooking the Park and the Plenty River. Picnic and toilet facilities are located at a small carpark at the bottom of the Gorge, about 500 m away.
There are spectacular views across the Gorge from the clifftop platform. An overgrown and disused walking track leads down from the platform to the foot of the gorge.
A shared pathway starts at the viewing platform, and follows the perimeter fence.

The upper carpark, and lower level picnic ground are off Gorge Rd, not far from Plenty Rd.
I last visited this area several years ago, and I was saddened to note visually detracting high-density residential development around the perimeter of this section of the Park.
