These pix were taken on January 3, 2012.
They show the scenery, features, and environment along a 2 km section of the Silvan Dam Inlet Aqueduct, between Queens Rd and Lewis Rd, Silvan, 30 km east of central Melbourne.
This Aqueduct Channel is a 5.7 km secondary operational feeder into the Silvan Dam, and was built in 1958, using the former Inlet Aqueduct when the Dam was constructed in 1931, as part of the original O'Shannassy Aqueduct system.
It carries about 8 megalitres/day from the Corranderk Aqueduct, at the take-off point on Don Rd, Launching Place.
Access is at the bridge on Queens Rd. Pedestrian entry to the management track is normally prohibited, but I was given the OK to do my exploration by Melbourne Water employees who were doing maintenance there.
This Aqueduct was originally the sole inlet feeder to the Dam before a large-diameter underground pipe was laid down when the O'Shannassy Aqueduct was decommissioned in 1996.
The Aqueduct runs alongside Channel Rd.
