These pix were taken on Feb 1 2014.
They show the scenery and environment on a 2 km hike in the Lakewood Nature Reserve, Knoxfield.
The area is actually the Riddell Rd Flood Retarding Basin, managed by Melbourne Water.
The eastern section is an area of preserved bushland, which is what the land looked like prior to it being filled with houses.
A network of walking trails is located in the bushland.
The main shared sealed trail circumnavigates the Lake, offering splendid views towards the Dandenongs.
A viewing platform extends into the Lake - there are many ducks and other birds, and a nice island!
A modernistic sculpture next to the trail commemorates the achievements of Australia's famous cyclist, Sir Hubert Opperman ("Oppy")
The City of Knox, where Opperman spent his last years, dedicated and named several trails and cycle ways around the municipality after races which Opperman won. It has also dedicated an annual bicycle event, The Oppy Family Fun Ride. The ride is part of the Knox Festival each March.
