THE BALNARRING COASTLINE - PICTORIAL HISTORY - 1873 to 2017

THE BALNARRING COASTLINE - PICTORIAL HISTORY - 1873 to 2017

I have published this free, comprehensive on-line, research project which describes in words and pictures the history, geomorphology, heritage and evolution of the Balnarring Coastline, extending from Somers to Point Leo and nearby areas, centred on Balnarring Township, 80 km south of Melbourne, located on Westernport Bay.

The Project includes many public-domain out-of-copyright images, drawings, maps, engravings and photographs, dating back to the 1870s, supplemented with recent photos and videos taken by the author.

Exploring scenic Bald Hill Nature Reserve, Red Hill

Bald Hill Nature Conservation Reserve is located on Bowrings Road, Red Hill, about 80 km south of Melbourne, near the Arthur's Seat National Park.

A pedestrian entrance is located at the end of Bowrings Road connecting with the reserve's walking tracks. The reserve is 23ha in size and offers panoramic views of Port Phillip Bay.

The Reserve's dominant vegetation community is heathland with many varieties of wildflowers being visible from September.

I explored this interesting Reserve on Sunday October 3, 2010, following the main 4WD fire management track to the Summit, and down to the jungle next to the Creek (dry!).

This was about 3 km total - the track is very steep in sections, with a change of altitude from 127m to 202m.

The views were truly spectacular, but an annoying haze covered the bay and surrounding countryside.

This is a relatively unknown Reserve, managed by Parks Victoria in conjunction with the Shire of Mornington Peninsula.
