Mid Winter Circuit Walk in the Sherbrooke Forest

On July 10, 2006, I visited the Information Centre in Ferntree Gully to pick up some free maps and brochures, and then went up to the Sherbrooke Forest in the Dandenong Ranges National Park, about 40 mins drive time from my home here in Mont Albert.

The Forest is networked with many tracks and paths, and there are always other walkers there, even in the dark bleak days of mid-winter!

I entered the Forest at the junction with Lloyd's and Wattle Tracks, then did a 4 km circuit along those tracks, following the Monument and Hackett Tracks, passing through the interesting Beeeches section.

Some of these Tracks are very muddy, and some brightly colored finches and rosellas were seen!

At this time of year, when the days tend to be overcast, it is quite dark in the Forest as early as 2.30 pm, and almost time for a flashlight!
