McDonald Park Nature Walk - Ararat Hills Regional Park
Top Picture: Old sluice, crosssing the Track
Bottom Picture: View east from Pioneer Lookout towards Mt Langi Ghiran and Mt Gorrrin
The Ararat Hills Regional Park is just north of the town of Ararat, about 200 km west of Melbourne.
It is 1000ha, dominated by the One Tree Hill, which has superb views of the Grampians, Mt Langi Ghiran, and the Mt Cole Plateau.
The 152ha McDonald Nature Reserve is part of the Park, with Bridal Hill as the central feature, an old mining area.
A 1.1 km loop walking track, with interpretative signs, starts at the Bridal Hill picnic ground, and provides an interesting introduction to the flora and fauna there.
The Track passes around the quaintly named Tub and Cradle Dam.
Mick and I did this trip on September 9, 2006.
