On July 15, 2006, I explored a further section of the track along the disused O'Shannassy Aqueduct, 85 km east of Melbourne.
This covered the sector centred at the crossing at the Dee Road, north of Warburton township. Public access to this setion is allowed westerly to the Don Road.
This section is adjacent to the southern perimeter of the Yarra Ranges National Park, and winds around the lower slopes of Ben Cairn, which are heavily timbered, mainly regrowth from the 1939 fires which ravaged the region.
There are good views to the east across the Upper Yarra Valley and distant ranges. Near the Dee Rd crossing, the open channel disappears into a tunnel and emerges on the other side of the hill, near the old signalling cabin. There are only two of these cabins still existing, which were connected by magneto telephone lines used by maintenance workers.
