Exploring the Organ Pipes National Park





















The Organ Pipes National Park is 20 km north of Melbourne.

I went ou there on August 7, 2006 as a follow-up trip to a previous trip some months ago, to study in more detail the Park's geology and environment, and to complete the Jackson's Creek walking track.
.
The carpark is actually on the crater of an extinct volcano, which last erupted about 800,000 years ago.


The basalt rocks are the remains of volcanic activity, of some two million years ago, when lava flowed from the hills about 6 km to the north of the Park.
