Warburton Rail Trail
The 38 km Warburton Rail Trail links the outer east Melbourne suburb of Lilydale with the town of Warburton.
It was built on the alignment of the former Lilydale-Warburton railway, which closed down in 1984.
The Trail is very popular with walkers, horseriders, dogs-on-leashes, and cyclists, and is a recognized tourist attraction. There are several entry/exit access points, allowing "step-on" and "step-off" access.
The most scenic section is between Killara and Woori Yallock, with superb views towards the Yarra Ranges across farmland and the river flats.
I did the 15 km section (30 km return) between Seville and Launching Place on August 19 and 20, 2006, on my 21-speed mountain bike, a bit quicker that walking it!
The Photo Album of the ride is at
