Glenfern Valley Bushlands Reserve is a 40 hectare area, in the Ferny Creek Valley, in the foothills of the Dandenong Ranges, 30 km east of Melbourne.
It is part of Melbourne's Green Wedge, and was declared a Reserve in 2004.
The Ferny Creek runs through it.
It is the habitat of a large variety of fauna and flora, and is networked with walking tracks.
It was devastated by bushfires in 1962, 1980 and 1984, and there has been extensive regrowth, with no major fire outbreaks since.
The Reserve is within the Yarra Ranges Shire, and the formal Management Plan, prepared in 2004, provides for progressive introduction of visitor facilities and other improvements.
I visited the Reserve on August 23, 2007, exploring some of the tracks, enjoying good views over the Valley towards the Dandenong Ranges National Park.

Hi Bob, Time to revisit Glenfern Valley Bushlands.
ReplyDeleteSeats and picnic tables are now installed, new walking tracks set out and a lot of weeds have been removed to make way for indigenous revegetation.... come and have a look
