Rainbow Bird Trail - Jubilee Mines Sector

The Rainbow Bird Trail is a high quality 35 km walking track, running between the settlements of Scarsdale and Dereel, passing through the Jubilee Mines Historic Area, adjacent to the Enfield State Park, about 25 km south of Ballarat.

Linking various site of interest, it winds its way through the old gold mining regions of the 1800s, reserved forest, and past lakes and conservation areas.

It's managed jointly by the Break O'Day and Forest Environment Group and the Ballarat Environment Network.

On August 25 2007, Mick and I hiked a 10 km (return)section of the Trail, starting and finishing at the Jubilee Mines Historic area.

Our route took us along the Jubilee Track, past the Jubilee Reservoir, through former gold mining and logging country, over creeks, and along the Donald McLean's Rd.

The Trail is named after the Rainbow Bee-eater, also known as the Rainbow Bird.

Sadly, no Rainbow Birds were seen!
