I explored Track 19 (also known as Road 19) in the Olinda Creek Valley, Dandenong Ranges National Park, on November 10 2007.
This track is one of many in this section of the Park, used for fire protection and control, with walker access permitted.
It is entered by a gate on the Olinda Creek Rd, adjacent to a large fire water tank.
It crosses the Olinda Creek, then passes through the site of a former potato farm - the old farmhouse is now derelict.
It then continues uphill, through bushland, reaching another gate, which leads into private property.
The area is jointly managed by Parks Victoria and Melbourne Water - an emergency fire pumping plant is nearby, at Stewart's Weir, on the Olinda Creek.
Shrubs, plants and fruit trees, planted by the original owners in the 1960s have gone wild.
This section of the NP was almost completely destroyed by the terrible bushfires on 1962.
Commercial logging in the Olinda Forest was phased out by 1968.
