Mt. Cole is an 828 m volcanic peak, in the south eastern section of the Mt Cole State Forest, 180 km west of Melbourne.
We explored the forest surrounding Mt Cole on February 10, 2008, on a 14 km hike which took us along Frees Point Track, Old Dairy Maid Track, and Archie Lookout Track.
We did not reach the summit, as the access track could not be found, apparently hidden in regrowth.
Many of the trails are former logging tracks, and are now used for forest and fire management, and walkers are permitted access.
