The Sherbrooke Forest, 40 km east of Melbourne, in the Dandenong Ranges National Park, is one of the main habitats of the lyrebird.
These extremely shy creatures may sometimes be seen on or adjacent to the many walking tracks in the forest.
I visited the eastern section of the forest on March 29, 2008, on a 5 km circuit hike starting from the Sherbrooke Picnic Ground, along the Sherbrooke and Ridge Tracks.
I saw only one lyrebird, which was very photo-shy!
