I hiked the Range Rd, School Tk and Caterpillar Track on April 20, 2008, in the Olinda Section of the Dandenong Ranges National Park.
Range Rd is gated, and was once the main route for horses and carts, and bullock wagons, linking with the Olinda township at the top of the Range.
My 3 km return hike started at the northern access at Range Rd, not far from Olinda township. It passed through tall forest and fern gullies, joining School Track, a change in altitude from 569m to 453m.
A short side-trip was along the quaintly-named Caterpillar Track!
