The Tregallas Track is in the Sherbrooke Forest, Dandenong Ranges National Park, 30 km from the Melbourne CBD.
It was named after an early settler who had built a cottage there in the 1850s, for timber cutting.
The Track links Cole's Ridge and Bleakley Tracks, passing through pleasant Mountain Ash forest and fern gullies.
I hiked this interesting track on April 11, 2008, as part of a 3 km circuit starting at Grant's Picnic Ground, and following the Cole's Ridge and Bleakley Tracks.
Over 2000 walkers were on Cole's Ridge Track, participating in the annual Oxfam Cross Country multi-day hills walk, gathering at Grant's Picnic Ground as one of three stopping points.
