One Tree Hill is in the Ferntree Gully Section of the Dandenong Ranges National Park, 35 km east of the Melbourne CBD.
Many interesting walking tracks link the summit, at 480m, with the adjacent forest.
Unfortunately, views from the summit are blocked by tall trees.

Many years ago, a lookout tower provided excellent panoramas towards Melbourne, but this was dismantled inn the 1950s due to safety issues and never rebuilt.
I visited the Hill on May 21, 2008, completing a 3 km circuit hike along Poachers' Track, Tree Fern Track, Link Track and Ramu Avenue.

Hi, I have memories of the tower at One Tree Hill and, not knowing it had gone, went looking for it not long ago. However, I was born in 1958 so I suspect the tower may have lasted into the mid 1960s, at least. I might have visited as a Wolf Cub, when I was at least 8 years old.

ReplyDeleteThese walk's you mention were my playground wonderland between the ages of 5 -10.
I went searching for the lookout when I came across your site.
Guess I'll stop looking now.
