The Lyrebird Haunt Reserve is an interesting area of preserved bushland, high up on the Monbulk to Olinda Rd, 40 km east of the Melbourne CBD.
Its boundaries are Holden Rd and Upper Coonara Rd.
There are no tracks in the Reserve, and visitors seeking glimpses of the shy lyrebirds must scramble up a steep slope in thick forest.
I visited the Haunt on May 8, 2008, for a pleasant 2 km return walk along Holden Rd to the junction with Upper Coonara Rd.
Sadly, no lyrebirds were to be seen!
There were some nice views towards Monbulk and the valley.
