The Black Flat River Trail is in the Warrandyte State Park, 20km east of the Melbourne CBD.
It follows the course of the Yarra River, linking the picnic reserves at Jumping Creek and Black Flat, and is 4 km return.
There are marvellous views of the river from high up on the cliffs overlooking the Gorge.
The Trail is stony and steep in parts, and footbridges have been built in several places over creeks and gullies.
I hiked this interesting Trail on September 14, 2008, starting and finishing at the Jumping Creek picnic ground, which is reached from the Jumping Creek Rd.
