Rosebud Coast, Port Phillip Bay

Rosebud, about 60 km south of Melbourne, on Port Phillip Bay, began as a fishing village in the 1850s. The name Rosebud probably derives from the name of the SS Rosebud, which sank not far from the present day Rosebud Pier, in 1877. Some people believe that the area now known as Rosebud may originally have been called 'Banksia Point.

I visited the Rosebud Coast on Monday afternoon January 4, 2010.

My exploration included the recently refurbished Rosebud Jetty, Rosebud Beach, the Rosebud Foreshore Trail, and Macrae Beach. This was a 4 km hike on a hot day.

There was plenty of action on the water and on the beach!
