Exploring scenic Steege Track, Bunyip State Park

Steege Track is in the western section of the Bunyip State Park, 65 km east of Melbourne.

It is a gated fire management track, with its southern entry point at the junction of the Mortimer Nature Trail and the Gembrook-Tonimbuk Rd.

I explored this scenic track on Thursday afternoon March 4, 2010, which passes through tall forest and tree ferns.

The region was extensively logged until timber cutting was phased out in 1992.

I followed the track uphill, steep in parts, reaching the junction with Link Rd, which was my turnabout point.

There is a change in altitude from 146 m to 380 m.

The track follows the ridge line, offering limited views to the east and west, partially obscured by trees.
