These pix were taken on September 10 2013 in the Banyule Flats Reserve, Viewbank.
They show the scenery and environment on a 3 km hike in the western section of the Reserve.
My route started at the car park at the end of Somerset Drive, then along the Main Yarra Trail to a turnoff on to an old seldom used unmarked track from the junction of the Plenty River Tail.
This passed the large Banyule Lagoon in the Wetlands and of interest was a tall windmill next to the river.
On the opposite bank was the Yarra Valley Country Club and Burrarrung Park, in Templestowe.
I've included some pix of Jacko, a Kookaburra guarding the track from a large fallen tree!

As a local resident, we often take these trails and they are magnificent. You would never know you were in a city and it is so good for your spirit - calming and beautiful. We regularly see kangaroos, kookaburras, cockatoos, parrots, wombats, platypus and even one day a large turtle. We are so lucky to have this on our door step. Every time I wander these trails, I'm staggered by the fact that there are no kids out in the bush exploring and playing. When I was a child, I did nothing but explore and run wild in the 'bush' whether in the UK, Holland or later Australia.
