They show the scenery and environment on a 3 km hike along the Koonung Trail.
This is actually two pathways, on the south and north sides of the Eastern Freeway; the north trail is in Doncaster, the south trail is in Mont Albert North.
My journey started at the car park on Belmore Rd, next to Elgar Park, then west alongside the Koonung Creek passing the Koonung Creek Wetlands and then on the bridge over the Eastern Freeway.
From there it was along the northern section of the trail, passing Simpson Park, with a turnabout point at the "Park and Ride" bus/car park interchange at Doncaster Rd.
The Wetlands is next to the Bridge, with a boardwalk and information boards describing fauna in the area.
There are families of ducks and peahens resident in the wetlands - whenever anyone goes along the boardwalk, they will approach the visitors, hopeful of getting some refreshments!

This is my regular "I have an hour spare" bird watching location - It can be a great place.
ReplyDeleteBut I think I have almost been killed about 5 times by the silent but deadly approach of cyclists!
