The Cave Paintings at Langi Ghiran State Park

On July 8, 2006, we went out to the Lang Ghiran State park, 160 km west of Melbourne, and did the relatively short 1.8 km return walk to the Aboriginal Art Paintings in the Caves.

The foot-track to the caves passes over old sluices and across boardwalks, and there are some interesting, but partially obscured views to the south as it winds up through unusual forest vegetation on the gentle ascent in the foothills of Mt. Gorrrin.

The Caves are of historical and cultural significance to the Aboriginal people of the area.

The cave is actually a large space between two enormous boulders, and the Paintings are viewed from behind a protective metal fence.

There are numerous smaller boulders and rocky outcrops nearby, with populations of white screeching cockatoos overhead, noisingly indignant at our invasion of their territory!
