Long Point and Steep Tracks, Long Forest

The Long Forest Nature Conservation Reserve is a large area (532 hectares) of preserved woodland, 50 km west of Melbourne, between the towns of Bacchus Marsh and Melton, just south of the Merrimu Reservoir.

There are 400 native plants and 160 bird species listed.

I did a 5 km hike in the northern section of the Reserve, on November 25, 2006.

The hike was a circuit route, along the Long Point and Steep Tracks, with interesting views passing the Pyrites Creek and the valley. The Steep Track lived up to its title, very rocky and extremely steep!
