The Falls Creek Alpine Resort is 430 km NE of Melbourne, in the Victorian Alps.
On August 3 to 5, 2007, Mick Ogrizek and I visited Falls Creek, staying overnight at a nice motel at the settlement of Mt Beauty, 36 km down in the valley, and drove up to the Resort and back on the Friday and Saturday.
Snow cover at the Resort was intensive - over 100 cm on the cross country trails! The nearby Rocky Valley Dam was frozen solid.
Temperature at noon on August 4 was around minus 3 degrees - my Subaru 4WD grew many icicles!
I did two "snow-walks" on foot: 8 km return along High Plains Rd past the Rocky Valley Dam, and 4 km return near the Nordic Bowl.
Mick took to the cross-country skis and did the Roper Lookout Trail and other trails past the Dam.
I didn't use my skis as it is hard to set up and constantly use cameras at the same time!
Total driving distance was 1105 km - we returned to Melbourne via the Lake Mountain (Marysville) Snow Resort - good cross-country snow cover there.
The photo album shows it all. It's at http://worldisround.com/articles/333826/index.html
