The municipality of Christmas Hills is some 40 km NE of Melbourne. It includes part of the Warrandyte-Kinglake Conservation Zone, and the Rifle Range Forest Reserve.
I visited the Reserve on August 18, 2007, doing an 8 km hike along the Rifle Range and Robert's Tracks, through remnant bushland, some of which had recently been burnt back as part of the Victorian Goivernment's fuel reduction activities.
There were some nice views from the summit, at 319m, across to the east.
The Reserve, which was heavily logged in the early 1900s, adjoins the Kinglake National Park.
