Sunset Track is in the Eastern Section of the Lysterfield Park, 35 km east of Melbourne.
The summit offers magnificent views across the Monbulk Creek Valley to distant Melbourne, and to the Dandenong Ranges.
The interesting Birdsland Reserve is adjacent to the Park, a series of artificially created Lakes on the Monbulk Creek, forming the Monbulk Creek Retarding Basin. Many varieties of waterbirds are resident in the Lakes. The Creek is the habitat of platypuses and water rats.
The Environmental Education Centre is located in the Reserve.
There is an excellent circuit shared walking track around the Lakes.
Dargon Track divides the Reserve from the Park - Sunset Track joins with Dargon Track.
I visited Birdsland and hiked up Sunset Track on August 20, 2007.
