Olinda Forest

These photos were taken on April 7, 2018. They show the scenery and environment in the Olinda Forest, starting at Olinda  Creek Rd, then along Management Road 13 to the bridge. Fuel reduction activities are represented by the blackened tree trunks, in contrast to the underlay of beautuful small ferns which have sprung up from the ashes.

New signage has been placed in the forest, and Management Roads have been retitled as "Tracks" !

Olinda Forest in late Autumn

o

George's Rd is a 2 km gated fire-management track in the Olinda Forest, Dandenong Ranges National Park, 45 km east of the Melbourne CBD.

It links Olinda Creek Rd with Hermon's Track, and was once a logging route in the early 1900s.

I explored this track on May 11, 2008, to the accompaniment of White Cockatoos, Black Cockatoos, Kookaburras, Whipbirds, and Bellbirds!

What a chorus of bird songs!

Olinda Forest - Views and Tracks

Walkers and dogs on Poplar Track

Zoom view towards Lake Mountain and Mt Juliet

The Olinda Forest is a large section of the Dandenong Ranges National Park, 45 km east of the Melbourne CBD.

I visited the Forest on December 23, 2007, hiking the Mathias, Birch and Poplar Tracks in the beautiful Arboretum.

There are excellent views towards the Yarra Ranges from the high point on the nearby Silvan Rd.

Red foxes are a nuisance in this Forest, and poison bait has been laid - warning notices show the locations.

Photo Album of my trip.

Lookout Rock - Olinda Forest

Lookout Rock, Nov 22, 2007

Olinda Valley, from Mathias Tk, Nov 22 2007

Lookout Rock
is in the Olinda Section of the Dandenong Ranges National park, 45 km east of the Melbourne CBD.

I explored the area on November 22, 2007, on a 4 km hike along the Mathias, Sequoia, and Rock Tracks, starting and finishing at the junction of Silvan Rd and Mathias Track.

These Tracks pass through the beautiful Olinda Valley, the Arboretum and lush fern gullies.

Lookout Rock has been a popular destination for over 100 years, and is adjacent to the Olinda Golf Course.
