ELECTRONIC GUIDE TO SHORT WALKS IN VICTORIA

This is a new free Guide, available only on the Internet as a multi-page Website.

It contains descriptions of over 400 short walks in Victoria which the author, Bob Padula OAM, has undertaken in the period from mid-2005 until the present.

The walks range from short 30 minute strolls to longer half or full day excursions, mostly within 100 km of Melbourne.

Most can be completed by anyone with a moderate level of fitness - some are suitable for persons with limited mobility.

In publishing this free Guide, the author shares his knowledge and experiences, with the hope that it will encourage readers to set aside some time to venture regularly into the Victorian countryside and enjoy the beauty and scenery which it offers, and at the same time support the development and maintenance of an appropriate level of fitness.

The walks are arranged by geographical region, and each entry shows distance from Melbourne, length, duration, features, date completed, general notes, a link to Track Notes (or Map) issued by Parks Victoria or other agencies, and a link to the Photo Album for that walk.

The Photo Albums have detailed information about the Walks to which they refer, and the images may be viewed as Slide Shows or individually.

The Guide also includes a Search Feature, where users may search for any place or locality in the Guide, which will link to the sub-page on which the destination appears.

There is comprehensive support information in many sub-pages, including safety, fitness, walking clubs and federations, mapping resources, walks publications, and satellite images of the main national parks in Victoria.

A Message Board “Hiking Victoria” is also part of the Guide, using the latest pHp open-source technology, which allows visitors to share news, information, experiences, their walks, techniques and equipment.

The message Board also includes details of NEW WALKS which have been opened, walking tracks which have been closed to the public, and proposed new walking tracks.

The Guide is updated regularly with details of new walks as they are completed by the author.
