The Spectacular Blowhole, Flinders Coast

I visited the spectacular Blowhole on the Flinders Coast on January 27, 2012.

It's 90 km by road south of Melbourne, and is reached from the turnoff on the Flinders to Rosebud Rd, about 1 km west of Flinders township.

Access to the beach is via a 500 m stairway.

The views are truly spectacular!

Tea Tree Creek Bay in early autum - Flinders Coast

Tea Tree Creek Bay is a wonderful secluded cove on the Flinders coast, 90 km from Melbourne, in the Mornington Peninsula National Park.

It is about 3 km west of the town of Flinders, and is accessed by a 1 km foot-track and staircase from the Boneo Rd. A small car park is located at the start of the signposted track.

There are magnificent views looking south across the open ocean of Bass Strait, as well as the dramatic coastlines from the clifftop, in either direction, with waves breaking over large basalt rock formations.

I visited the Bay on Saturday afternoon March 5, 2011, I usually go down there every three months - this was the 2011 autumn trip! I followed the beach track to East Point and beyond, then back to the staircase, then up to the top of West Bluff, a total of about 3 km.

I met some other visitors who were also exploring the marvellous rock pools, which had been exposed during low tide.

The cliffs rise about 50 m from sea level.

Flinders Coastal Hike - Westernport Bay

These pictures were taken on Tuesday December 14, 2010, on a 3 km coastal hike from Flinders, Westernport Bay, 80 km south of Melbourne.

The tide was far out, exposing a vast array of interesting rock-pools.

My route took me from the Flinders Jetty (currently being refurbished), north towards Shoreham.

The archival photo of the Jetty is one which I took on January 12 1952 on a coastal hike with the YMCA - we walked from our camp at Shoreham to Flinders, and were taken back to camp by bus.

I still have my Box Brownie camera which I used on the 1952 walk and it is in good working condition!

Very few houses then!

Bushrangers Bay - Flinders Coast

Bushrangers Bay is in the Mornington Peninsula National Park, 90 km SW of Melbourne.

The 6 km (return) walking track (accessed from Boneo Road, near Cape Schank), is regarded by many visitors as the best scenic short coastal walk in Victoria.

I would certainly agree!

The Track is officially known as "Two Bays Track" and terminates at the Cape Schank Lighthouse.

The turnoff to Bushrangers Bay is about half way to the Lighthouse.

The sheltered beach is magnificent, other visitors were enjoying the waves and a picnic!

I visited the Bay on Thursday afternoon October 8, 2009. I usually go down there every six months - this was the spring trip! I followed the beach track to East Point and beyond, then back to the staircase, then up to the top of West Bluff, a total of about 3 km.

The cliffs rise about 50 m from sea level.

Flinders Coast Beach Hike

On Thursday October 1 2009 I visited the coastal township of Flinders, on Westernport Bay, some 70 km south of Melbourne.

My trip included a beach hike of 4 km return towards Shoreham, a walk to the end of the Jetty, and a short excursion along the cliff top to the Lookout in Bass Park.

See all of the Photos, which show the scenery, views, reefs, some "candid camera" shots, rockpoolers, fishing action off the Jetty, crab-fossickers, and beachcombers.

There were good views across the Bay to Phillip Island.

Flinders Coast

Flinders is a coastal town on Westernport Bay, about 70 km south of Melbourne.

I visited Flinders on Wednesday August 19, 2009, and my trip included a 4 km hike along the coast around the cliffs of the West Head.

On top of the cliffs is the Royal Australian Navy Weapons Training Facility, with entry to the general public prohibited.
