Banyule Flats Reserve

The extensive Banyule Flats Reserve adjoins the Yarra River, 15 km NE of Melbourne, within the Banyule City Council district.

The Plenty River Trail starts in the Reserve, and the Main Yarra Trail passes through it. Both are shared walking/cycling trails.

To the east is Westerfold's Park - to the west is Banksia Park.

Opposite the Yarra on the south side is Birrarung Park.

I visited the Reserve on September 27, 2007, walking some 6 km along the Plenty River and Main Yarra Trails.

The view from the summit on the Plenty River Trail was superb, with a panorama east to the Dandenong Ranges and the river valley in between.

This walk is included in my new (free!) INTERNET GUIDE TO SHORT WALKS IN VICTORIA, which contains details of nearly 400 short walks I have completed since 2005 and the present. This very comprehensive Guide is updated whenever I complete a new walk - it includes links to Trail Notes, Maps, the Photo Albums, with the walks arranged in geographical order. Comments welcome!
