The Eagle Nest picnic ground is in the Olinda Forest, Dandenong Ranges National Park, 35 km east of Melbourne town.
It is reached from Silvan Rd, then along the Eagle Nest Rd.
Walking tracks radiate from the picnic area.
On Sunday afternoon February 28, 2010 I visited Eagle Nest, and hiked a 3 km circuit. This took me along Eagle Nest Track, then on to George's Track, and along Hermon's Track.
The Lybrebird Creek is crossed near the picnic ground.
Eagle Nest was once a potato farm in the early 1940s, and was subsequently amalgamated into the Park.
See all of the Photos of my visit!
This circuit follows old logging tracks, now used for fire management purposes, with good signposting, through beautiful timber forest and fern gullies.
