Exploriing gold diggings at Fifth Hill, Warrandyte SP
On Tuesday afternoon August 31, 2010, I went over to the old gold diggings region in the Warrandyte State Park, 25 km east of central Melbourne.
My 2 km exploration was around the Fifth Hill Anticline and Pigtail Reef, along Pigtail Track, site of alluvial diggings of the 1850s.
Sadly, no gold, but plenty of quartz!
The channels you see in the photos were dug as exploratory trenches, some leading into deeper excavations, along the Reef line.
These channels are now 160 years old!
See all of the Photos of my exploration!
