Old Joe's Creek Reserve - Boronia

The Creek

Today's 2 km hike was to the site of one of the former retarding basins which were built across creeks which started in the lower reaches of the western flank of Mt Dandenong.

These were dams, normally with earthern walls, the outflow of which usually entered underground barrel drains, to prevent downtream inundation of properties in Melbourne's developiing outer eastern suburbs.

Guess who? !

The Old Joe's Creek Basin Reserve is on the eastern side of Dorset Rd, between Boronia Rd and the Mountain Highway, Boronia, managed by Melbourne Water.

  1. We used to take our two boys and the dog down there (a short walk from our home) a lovely place for birds and reptiles (and of cause rabbits and foxes). It is a pity that the creek is so contaminated these days
