Exploring Yarra Bend Park

Pix taken on April 3, 2012, on a hot early autumn day of 26 degrees!

Yarra Bend Park is a 260 hectare (642 acre) park in the Melbourne suburb of Kew. Located 4 km northeast of Melbourne's CBD, it is the largest area of natural bushland left in inner Melbourne.

The most notable feature of the park is the Yarra River which flows for 12 km through it.

The park hosts two golf courses, two historic boathouses, sheds and a number of cycle and walking trails. It receives approximately 1.5 million visitors per year.

I last visited the Park about 50 years ago - it has changed somewhat since!

My exploration started at the main car park, just off Studley Park Rd, next to the historic Kanes Footbridge and west along the Bushland Circuit Trail, following the Yarra, opposite the Yarra Bend golf course. Then back to the Studley Park Boathouse - a round trip of about 4km.

Lots of activity, as it was school holidays!

There are many interpretative signs along the Circuit rail, describing the fauna, flora, geography and history of the area.

There is a lot more exploration of this Park to do soon!

See the complete set of Photos of my visit, and my YouTube video!
