Exploring Wilson Botanic Park - Berwick

The Wilson Botanic Park is in the outer suburb of Berwick, 40 km SE of Melbourne, managed by the Shire of Casey, in conjunction with the Friends of Wilson Botanic Park.

It was established in 1992. A former basalt quarry donated to the community by Mr. George Wilson, grandson of the original land owners in 1854, Wilson Botanic Park has been developed into 39 hectares (100 acres) of scenic and tranquil parkland.

With spectacular exposed rock formations, unique fossils over 22 million years old, three picturesque lakes, paths meandering amidst native and exotic gardens and spectacular views, this stunning botanic park is unique in southern Victoria.

Facilities include lakeside picnic lawn, children's playground and electric BBQ's.

Two rotundas with magnificent views provide beautiful settings for weddings and photographs.

I visited this nice park on August 30 2007, exploring 5 km of walking tracks.
