Fiddler Gully Track - Warrandyte State Park

A short exploration of the gold mining historical area of the 1850s overlooking Anderson's Creek on April 1, 2018, on Fifth Hill.

Some tailing heaps remain - the track links Webb St with Dead End Track - gold deposits are occasionlly found in the quartz rocks on the hillside.

Fiddler Guilly in Spring, Warrandyte SP

The Fiddler Gully is in the Warrandyte State Park, 15 km east of central Melbourne, and is part of the heritage goldmining precinct.

I visited this locality on November 9, 2012, exploring the 2 km (return) Fiddler Gully Walking Track, starting at the gate on unsealed Webb St.

Some nice wildflowers were in bloom, but couldn't find any gold nuggets, only quartz rocks!

Wildflowers in Fiddler Gully, Warrandyte SP

These pictures were taken on Monday November 22, 2010 in the old goldmining region of Fiddler Gully, Warrandyte State Park, 25 km east of central Melbourne.

My 2 km hike followed the Fiddler Gully Track, starting at the gate on unsealed Webb St.

It passed excavations and mullock heaps of the gold mining activities of the 1850s.

Late spring wildflowers were blooming, on a hot day of around 34 degrees.

Fiddler Gully Gold Hike, Warrandyte State Park

On June 23, 2009, I went out to the Warrandyte State Park, 20 km east of the Melbourne CBD.

I parked at the small picnic area on Gold Memorial Rd, on the banks of Anderson Creek, then did a 3 km circuit hike up Wildcat Gully Track, Wildcat Link Track, Dead End Track (!), and Fiddler Gully Track.

These tracks are in the historical mining region of Fiddler Gully, which dates to the 1850s.
Gold panning in Anderson's Creek is still popular!

Dead End Track is aptly named - it terminates on the top of the precipice overlooking the Anderson Creek Gully!

Sadly, I didn't discover any nuggets - all gone!

Fiddler's Gully - Warrandyte State Park

Fiddler's Gully was once the centre of frenzied goldmining in the 1850s, in what is now the Warrandyte State Park, 30 km east of the Melbourne CBD.

An interesting 4 km circuit hike starts at the small car park/picnic area on Gold Memorial Rd, ascending Wildcat Gully Track, into Wildcat Link Track, then along public access Webb Rd, and on to Fiddler's Gully Track.

Fiddler's Gully Track descends steeply past old gold mining relics and rejoins Webb Rd, then into Wildcat Link and back to the start.

My hike was on February 25, 2009, a grey and overcast day.
